Saw in the Vancouver Sun this morning that the provincial gov't is going to axe the provincial grant to BC School sports. According to the article the "Big 3 - Football, Basketball and Volleyball" will probably survive while other programs and competitions, including rugby, will be cut.

I find it curious that the gov't would take this route as money in sports saves money down the road in other social or health programs (google that on the internet you'll find examples...) That being said, this is going to go ahead by the look of it.

From an activist standpoint, this would be a good time to contact your MLA to voice your concerns (assuming of course that you think this is a bonehead move). It may also be another moment when rugby needs it's alumni to step forward.

Well, Winger the Ontario scene is changing in another way. The students wanting to play extra curricula sports , football and rugby for sure are required to pay a participation fee of between $ 100. & #200.

So imagine, if you play rugby in the Spring and soccer or football in the Fall and you have more than sibling in the school programs in more than one such activity?

Just wonder how the parents are going to stump up any thing from $225. - $ 285. per kid per season at your neighbourhood rugby club.

That is likely over and above any rep team participation fees.

    Ouch !!
