Calgary Touch Rugby League 2011

    We've started a Touch Rugby League in the Calgary area.

    The league will run with eight teams, and play a double-round robin with play-offs.

    I think there was one in Oakville or Mississauga last year. A number of different clubs in the Toronto area run training indooors during the winter and us touch a lot but I do believe that last year people involved with the Cru mostly, with players from other clubs also playing, had an actual league with different divison including old boys and juniors.

    I think that we should try to run indoor sevens, full contact as well as touch. Might have to modify the kicking rules a bit depending upon the facility but a good way to get sevens back up and running like it was from the mid eighties to just after 2000 when it really took a downturn in the GTA.

    Great to see some proper rules being played!

    I'm sick of seeing this variety of unlimited touches and no retreat from the point of touch. Used to play the 5m retreat/6 touches = turnover variety in England and Australia. Much more fun and skills / vision increases with the extra room / time to think!

    How are you restricting the league to top level players? Or is it just self selection?
