ince the life span of a logo can often be measured in decades, it is vital to keep the original integrity of the design. Precise standards are needed to carefully manage and preserve it.

These standards exist to ensure that the logo’s impact and recognition value contribute to a positive, professional image of the Rugby Canada. The following specifications set the standards for the correct and consistent use of the Rugby Canada logo.

Where in this statement does it say:

Get rid of the original Maple Leaf and replace it with a Hockey Leaf minus the hockey stick?

I kind of like the fact that all these different sports have the same logo with a different little man in the middle. I think it's uniting. Many will disagree, but that's my two cents....

well if you ever had to actually wear the gear with the dumb man in the leaf logo then you'd probably understand!!!! You can only be called hockey players so many times!!! It's about trying to create an identity, instead GB just stole the hockey logo! Good Work

Shift have you worn it. Nothing wrong with hockey by the way. I doubt many rugby people in other countries know much about the hockey logo. Tha Maple Leaf says Canada all around the world.

Read the initial ingredient of the declaration again:

Since the life span of a logo can often be measured in decades, it is vital to keep the original integrity of the design. Precise standards are needed to carefully manage and preserve it.

The Maple Leaf should be measured in decades. They did not do this. The integrity of the design was thrown out with the trash.

A real disgrace to the - TRUE ORIGINAL LEAF -70 years of existence.

Shift - Congratulations on being carded! I have also worn the Maple Leaf logo - in two separate sports. Yes, sometimes the hockey comments came along, but frankly, it's one of our national sports, so of course it has more popularity... in Canada. Go anywhere else and they take a closer look at the logo and recognize the leaf. Whether you liked the logo or not, I hope you at least wore it with pride and didn't spread your disgust.
Frank - I guess I must have missed your point. Can you elaborate?

rugbyflare, i play rugby not hockey!!! we had the maple leaf but GB scrapped it. The current logo sucks, and sorry not sometimes did the hockey comment come in, but every time. Again, i play rugby not hockey and sorry I unlike you don't want to have people think I play for some other team, even if it's hockey. If that's what you like then u probably weren't a proud Canadian Rugby player!!!!!

I don't think Shift is making any sense. S/He is mad they got mistaken for the wrong sport. Boo hoo.
The point of the article on the RC Website regarding correct use of the logo is to make sure the current logo isn't going to get altered by others who want to use it. They are hoping the current logo lasts for decades.
Also, isn't this the hockey logo:
    http://www.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://dreardon.stu.cofc.edu/images/HockeyCanadaLogo.jpg&imgrefurl=http://dreardon.stu.cofc.edu/aboutme.html&usg=__NABMo9Ul7cLhh3vwfPSlD-lqcTE=&h=1601&w=1682&sz=409&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=AIPslqf-jRHH-M:&tbnh=147&tbnw=154&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dhockey%2Bcanada%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-US%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D655%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=492&ei=PYfRTN70FIy4sQObpJXMCw&oei=NYfRTL6BMoq0sAP_q_WTCw&esq=2&page=1&ndsp=16&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:0&tx=35&ty=60

And this is the rugby logo:

    They look different to me.
Or has it changed again since then???

Taylor and CO should spend less time coming up with designs and facebooking and actually try and get some real money sponsorships so they don't have to pass the hat every time a WC rolls around. I am still dumbfounded that we have a marketing department that doesn't generate enough money to cover their salaries and then add to that almost all of our teams are still pay to play. RC needs to share it's vision and plan with it's constituents. 8 years of the same results time for a real restructure. This is not being negative it is just the fact of the matter.

Those logos are quite different. I had never looked at them one after the other before but ours is significantly different. Anyone who thinks they look the same needs an eye check. I never played for Canada, with good reason, I was no good, but that doesn't stop me from being a proud Canadian rugby supporter, I have attended all 21 matches played by the Canadian team at each and every World Cup and will be there next year as well. I preferred the old Canadian Maple Leaf but times change and I will support the team no matter what it wears, I supported them in South Africa after all and wasn't that quite the shirt.
