Does anyone know if there is a specific criteia for getting back our full status on the IRB 7's circuit or is it just up to the whim of the boys in Dublin

I don't know what the criteria is to make the 'core' 10 that are announced before each season. But one would think you would have to at the very least have more points that the previous top 10. Right now we are 13 points back of Wales (how much of that is because they are in every tournament and Canada is not). However, they are the reigning Sevens World Champions, so I would imagine they might have to do something catastrophic to end up outside the Core nations only 2 years after that triumph. Next teams up are USA and Kenya and USA just made cup final in Oz.

I think we should be happy with the progress made by Canada this year, bringing through new players to the circuit to get valuable experience. Hopefully they will be able to go deep in the tournament in one of the final 2 weekends.

I think it is at the whim of Dublin. There are 12, not 10 core teams this year. Scotland and France are in all eight tournaments and neither of them have picked up points this year. Do you think that is enough to get us in. It should be but it won't be, cause they run the show not us. Does everyone realise that the Olympics is just 12 teams on each the mens and womens side. It should be 16 or even twenty four but we have to take what we can get from the IOC. There will be some very good teams who don't make it on the mens side especially.

Maybe it is time to expand to 20 team tournaments and increase the size of regulars. The game has gotten more popular due to the Olympics.
    Only makes sense.

    Harry,

I had never heard that is was to be 12 only in the olympics. Will there be regional qualifiers? What will be the determining criteria for gaining entry?
