NCAA Rugby Sevens on NBC

    I noticed the NCAA USA Rugby Sevens tournament finals (semis-bronze medal game and final) were broadcast on NBC yesterday. The event had sponsors such as godaddy.com and Subway. Large crowds, corporate sponsorship and a national broadcast on a major network. There were explanations of the game, discussions on 7s in the 2016 Olympic and the fact the USA are the last Olympic Rugby gold medalists (in the 1920s?). The USA Rugby Sevens coach was interviewed and he said it was a great opportuhity to identify talent since qualifiers for 2016 will take place in 2014. This all boads well for the development of the game south of the border.

    I only caught about 10 minutes of it, but I thought they did a great job presenting it. 7s would seem like a great filler for NBC (or any of the networks) sports. They can edit together matches quickly and there is lots of easy to follow action. Sunday afternoon with nothing else on.
    The NCAA is their semi-pro league.
