teamaccess, you really have team access! You had the team a long time before it was released. hmmm...are you Mutrie? lol

The team selection looks great, I hope this group can gel together quick enough.

    Some notable picks or non-picks
    Marlene Donaldson out completely
Suguwara over Stoughton (is the S&C coach not there?)
    Moyse in the lineup

Canada can win this one easy with this lineup. Yeah Canada!

Actually, it looks like NONE of Canada's pool games will be shown live. (Unless they're misleading in how that page has been written.) Sky's schedule does not have us down (except for possible semi / playoff spots) and the live streaming via the net appears to be those Sky matches.

But while it says 13, they've only listed 12 so fingers crossed the 13th will be Canada v France on match day three!

I think you are right Bandito. I looks from the Website that our Games will not be shown. I had seen a list on the website earlier that included the Canada France game. Hopefully it is just an oversight on their part and we will get the chance to see at least one of the pool stages

That came from the Rugby Canada Press release from Megan Mutie, reproduced below.

By the way Teamaccess you are doing an amazing job. Keep up the great work.

MEDIA PRESS RELEASE - LONDON, ENGLAND

CANADA'S NATIONAL SENIOR WOMEN'S RUGBY TEAM ANNOUNCES ITS ROSTER FOR THE OPENING MATCH OF THE 2010 WOMEN'S RUGBY WORLD CUP IN LONDON, ENGLAND. HEATHER MOYSE - GOLD MEDAL BOBSLEDDER - WILL START FOR CANADA JUST FIVE MONTHS AFTER THE OLYMPICS .

Head Coach John Long has selected his team for the christening match of the 2010 Women’s Rugby World Cup in London, England.

Canada’s experience is evenly balanced throughout the roster; two thirds of the starting XV have been to a World Cup before, but overall, the split is almost right down the middle (10 with, 12 without).

Canada and Scotland last faced each other in 2007 with Canada sealing a comfortable 46-3 win in Glasgow, but both teams have made a lot of ground in three years.

Fourth-ranked Canada enter the match as favorites over sixth-ranked Scotland, but based on their checkered year, the Scottish can be unpredictable; they beat third-ranked France in the Six Nations, but then were recently swept at home by the 12th-ranked South Africans.

Despite their mixed bag results, Head Coach John Long respects the danger the Scots present.

“Scotland are renowned for the way they play. They always wear their heart on their sleeve. They can mess game plans like the best of the teams around the world, so you have to go in with the mindset that they’re going to do everything they can to ensure you are on the back foot.

“We have to be prepared for that; we have to be ready for the whirlwind that’s going to come at us. It’s how we deal with that first 20 minutes that will set the tone for the game.”

Canada’s NSWT arrived in the UK on August 10, but were based in Cardiff, Wales for a pre-World Cup preparation camp until earlier this week. The camp gave the Canadians valuable time together before arriving at Surrey Sports Park, the World Cup venue for all 12 teams.

Rugby World Cups – like the Olympics – occur once every four years and Coach Long believes his squad is more than prepared for the tournament ahead, but says it is so important to not get overwhelmed and try and do too much in one game.

“I think it’s important we set our structures in place, and not try to stick everything in at once, but to play the ones we have selected for this particular game. There are lots of thing we can do, but it’s making sure we do the right ones at the right time.”

Canada and Scotland kickoff at 12pm BST at Surrey Sport Park in Guildford on Friday, August 20, 2010.

The game will be streamed live online through the IRB and is available at:

Confirmed by Meghan Mutrie on the facebook page...No video feed.

The IRB is focusing on the usual suspects, and leaving North American Rugby fans out in the cold...

...you're so right Winger quatorze, and look at their video of promotion, we almost only see players of the 4 Great Britain country speaking.

So there are highlights of yesterday's game on the IRB world cup site which means the games are being videoed. Why can't the organisers just provide the raw feed of the games for us poor sods who are not in England?

Well done ladies on a very nice win! Keep it going!

I don't think it's the IRB as much as it is Sky. As UK / Ire people have to pay to watch the tourney, it only makes sense (economically for them) to show as many of the Home Nation games as possible. You also wouldn't ignore the indomitable Black Ferns either. But that Sky ignored a 3/4 clash between France v Canada is a bit shocking (or possibly showing how much they know about women's rugby). Australia v South Africa on the 28th is probably the worst pick of the bunch (another bonus point win for the Aussies, surely).

... ah, just noticed something on the IRB page. All the televised pool matches are on Pitch One. Seeing as all our matches are on Pitch Two, which wouldn't be set up for tv (note the one camera footage in the highlights v Scotland), I imagine it's not likely we'll see our ladies in the full, as it were, until they reach the semis.

And with the way France played against Sweden, I think they have a great chance of winning the group!
