Rock over BC 31 - 30
Excellent game. Great weather. Rock dominated possession and territory, ran up a big lead. BC clawed their way back with a couple of nice tries.
Very late try by BC brought the score to 30 - 31. Connor Braid (who otherwise played well) missed a very makeable convert to leave BC a point short. The Rock's 16th man (supporters / hecklers in the stands) seemed to have rattled Braid ... he missed a number of other penalty and convert attempts.
Narrowest winning margin the Rock has had in years - but reports of the Rock's demise seem to be premature. To ice the cake, when the Rock U-20s took the national crown last year it was the first time a Newfoundland team beat BC.
(Atlantic) Rock seniors then beat BC, last season. This (by my count) is only the second time the Rock HAS beaten BC. (Couldn't have come at a better time!)

Jason Picco started at #12 for The Rock, Patrick Parfrey wasn't dressed due to injury. The game was there for the taking for B.C. As was mentioned, two missed converts and a last second penalty off the left post. Tough break, but I'm glad it happened.

Slackarse, great win but before you go get a statue made to commemorate the occasion, this looks like a BC "D" side I only recognize about 5/6 players in it including Colin "Granddaddy" mackenzie. It should be worrying for the ROck that it was even close.

I should have made that correction to the printed roster.
Yes, BC could have taken the game. They left a lot of points on the field ... but I still think the Rock had much the better of the play.

Send us a better team to chew on, or put a sock in it!
And isn't this an interesting reversal of perceptions : "It should be worrying for the Rock that it was even close."
Mighty BC, home of rugby in Canada, versus the outer fringes, the hinterland with a half million population and only 4 club sides ... and WE should be worried?
Yes, I'm sure BC could have fielded a stronger team ... but they sent who they sent. And while it mightn't have been their very best, I doubt it was a "D" team. You're seriously suggesting there are 45 other players in BC invited to represent BC and play for the Bears today, and they all declined, or are unavailable due to injury or some other reason?
I don't buy it. And if that IS the case, then BC better stop snubbing or sneering at the CRC competition, and field better squads, or quit the sour grapes, and suck it up.
The score at the final whistle is what it was ... and it didn't reflect the Rock's overall dominance of play. Considering their depleted ranks, they put on a really fine show today.
To quote from Patrick McCarry's article on the Rugby Canada site, in the game Preview, "Wilson’s inclusion at scrum-half is one of only two changes in the B.C. starting 15." So are we to interpret that as meaning that BC has been dissing the CRC competition set-up all season long, and fielding only a "D" side?
If that's the case, then there's been an awful lot of spin-doctoring coming out of Rugby Canada and BC's coach, in their PR.
This wasn't the Rock's "A" team, either, you know. So if you want, we can say the Rock's 2nd XV beat BC's 3rd XV ... and what are we left with? Endless quibbling, and speculation. Pointless.
Oh ... there were no plans for a statue. Got enough hardware as it is. What was it ... 3 MacTier Cups from the RCSL era, and another MacTier last year?

Slackarse,
you are overly sensitive. I agree BC sent what it sent and they are the team Rock squeeked past BUT that is the weakest bunch of BC players I have ever seen. That is why I am surprised the Rock did not beat them badly rather than almost lose to them. I don't have a clue why they do not have better players representing. Could it be many of the best players in BC premier league are now from other provinces (including NFLD) or Chris'the Pirate' Degusta cannot coach despite what his fable filled resume says.
Again after the absolute pasting the Rock took from Ontario, I thought there might be some payback or response from the Rock and a very narrow 1 pointer over a bunch of no-names from BC is not much of one.

BC Rugby is going down getting close to Manitoba level. If it wasn't for imports it would be in the gutter!

Gentlemen, BC was not able to field it's best team for the CRC tournament because it has numerous players in the Southern Hemisphere for the WC. Could you imagine what the score would be if Jason Marshall, Pat Riordin, Ryan Hamilton, Brian Erichsen, Tyler Hotson, Jamie Cudmore, Adam Kleeberger, Ed Fairhurst, Nate Hirayama, Connor Trainor, Sean White, Matt Evans, Sean Duke, and Sam Jenkins were playing this year in the CRC? I don't think any other full strength side would be able to keep it within 30 points. Just the facts.

This doesn't even factor in other quality BC players not interested in playing such as Cam Pierce, Mike Burak, Thy De Goode, Ben Johnson, Brock Nicholson, Phil Mack (for BC at least) etc etc.

phil mack and morgan williams play for the rock hahahaha they are too good to play for bc loser cudmore plays pro in france and evans in wales, they are too good to play in bc.
descossa has failed as the bc coach, he to should go back to coaching the women in wales

Rucknmaul, Phil Mack seems interested in playing for the Atlantic Rock team. As to the others you name...several are professional players and would never be playing for BC in the CRC. Regardless this is the BC team and it lost. No one was accepting the Rock's injury depletion last time out vs Ontario.
Slackarse, again you babble on about "the outer fringes, the hinterland with a half million population and only 4 club side". It's not a NL side. It represents Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and NL. So considerably more than 4 clubs and 0.5 million in population. Your continued attempts to ignore the other contributing provinces never fails to amaze me.

Perhaps next year the BC mainland coach should invite more Van Island players. The last two years the Bears mainland coaches have seemed to forget that there are players outside the lower mainland. Well done rock!

Newbie, I agree the last two years the coach was from Burnaby and the squad had its fair share of Burnaby players I've never heard of.

Slackarse,
to further Irishlocks point, based on a presentation by Rugby Quebec last year, in 2010 BC had just over 3100 senior players registered vs The "Atlantic" region who had just over 2800.
I would equally agree that a win is a win and the excuses from BC are weak

The BC coach is out of his depth. If he can't win with BC's 5th stringers against a depleted Rock squad then he has to go back to Alberta
As for coaches on the move I have just recently heard that John Long will be coaching the Pan Am team. Again everyone needs to ask the hired guns, where was the open and fair process for this position? Why wasn't Morgan Williams or Shane Thompson considered? They would have better off handing the position to John Tait. He has just won ever 7's tournament they have entered. I guess that would make too much sense and none of those guys are friends with Dustin Hopkins or Geraint John. Once again Rugby Canada you have a demonstrated that you suck and should never be trusted with your hiring and firing policies.

Dissapointing result but good on the Rock for getting the job done. Good god when will Snow hang up the boots. He needs to be playing with the "Classics"
