The Rugby Quebec Finals took place this past Saturday at the Montreal Irish grounds in St Julie, QC.

In the Division C Final the Montreal Irish 3rds withheld a strong comeback by Ste Anne de Bellevue 3rds to win 16-12.

In the Division B Group 2 Final les Braves de Trois Rivieres took the honours over les Barracudas de St Jean-sur-Richeleu.

The Division B Group 1 and Division B Reserve finals were contested by the 1st and 2nd teams of Parc Olympique and Rugby Club de Montreal. Parc Olympique ran out the winner in both contests.

The Division A Reserve final saw the undefeated Montreal Irish second team downed by a determined effort from an experienced Ste Anne de Bellevue RFC 2nd team. Final score was 20-13.

The showcase event - Division A Final - saw a back-and-forth, physical contest pitting the Irish 1st team against perennial contenders and cup holders, Ste Anne de Bellevue. A strong defensive effort saw the Irish win the Quebec Championship for the first time in almost 30 years by a score of 20-12.

The finals were watched by several hundred fans and were blessed with good weather given the recent torrential rain.

The question is did Rugby Canada have any selectors in attendance????? I think not, apparently they don't see Quebec finals as important. Sorry, but that RC for ya

To be fair there is a distinct pathway. Play for Quebec, move up to the CRC level, then you are scouted by RC. While it would be nice to have RC selectors at all provincial finals that's not really financially feasible.

Could there be some sort of regional scouting network put in place (similar, but obviously on a much smaller scale to hockey or football)? Sure, but again money will always come into the equation and at the end of the day, someone has to pay for it.

irishlock, sorry but have to disagree, we should be identifying athletes at the national level far earlier than we are doing. To wait until players play ARC is useless, cause by that time they are in there mid to late 20's. It doesn't cost much for selectors to fly to Quebec, they seem to send the entire office to NFLD for the ARC, at least they could fly one member to quebec. By saying you have a distinct pathway, and it's too expensive to fly someone there, you are just adding to the problem.

Irishlock, I will call BS on that statement. If RC didn't piss off so many volunteers then they might have people step up to the plate to lend a hand. Someone from the area could video the match and send it to the national coaching staff in Victoria. The cost to ship is nominal.
I am sure there is a pathway but I think the word you are searching for is extinct. The national coaching staff attended half of a 3 game schedule.

Cut out the excuses, it’s Pathetic.

I don't disagree that we need to identify more athletes earlier, but that's what the eastern u18 event in Truro was for (attended by at least 2 RC coaches) as well as the U20 national championship (I know that the Atlantic event in NB was also attended by an RC coach). The problem locally is that the number of kids playing rugby in high school is not high and those that are playing don't begin until they are in later grades. It is a microcosm of rugby in canada. We, locally, need to expand the base of the 'pyramid'.

Having said that, I still think local scouts / selectors is the way to go rather than flying people all over the place to watch games. I also agree that probably more events like this need to be taped.

Regardless, let's try and stay on topic, which was really about the success of the teams that made it to this years finals. Congrats to all!

Congratulations to all the winners. Thanks to all the officials or the games couldn't have taken place.
