Looks like The Rock prevailed 19-13 over the Canada Selects.

Did anyone see the game? Since Crowley was using this as an opportunity to see who's putting their hands up for a 2011 World Cup spot it would be nice to hear who performed well.

A lot of people on this forum have the opinion the CDI Premier League is the top in the country and that the national team comes from the CDI. Using that logic, it looks like the CRC champs beat what one would assume to be Crowley's opinion of a CDI all star team plus some of the Wales project players and national team players. Also interesting to note is that a large number of The Rock players have not played in 7 months (since last October).Who wants to weigh in on this?

    Canada Selects
    1. Hubert Buydens (Prairie Wolf Pack)
    2. Ryan Hamilton (British Columbia)
    3. Scott Franklin (Prairie Wolf Pack)
    4. Brett Beukeboom (Ontario Blues)
    5. Brian Erichsen (BC Bears)
    6. Mark Macsween (Ontario Blues)
    7. Dustin Dobravksy (Prairie Wolf Pack)
    8. Jeremy Kyne (Prairie Wolf Pack)
    9. Jamie Mackenzie (Ontario Blues)
    10. Ander Monro (Ontario Blues)
    11. Beau Parker (British Columbia)
    12. Ryan Smith (Prairie Wolf Pack)
    13. Nick Blevins (Prairie Wolf Pack)
    14. Matt Buckley (British Columbia)
    15. Connor Braid (British Columbia)

    Replacements:
    16. Doug Wooldridge (Ontario Blues)
    17. Andrew Tiedemann (Prairie Wolf Pack)
    18. Pat Riordan (British Columbia)
    19. Shea Wakefield (British Columbia)
    20. Conor McCann (Shawnigan Lake School)
    21. Shawn Mercier (British Columbia)

Wow ... just wow. Congrats to The Rock!

[this topic will go 10 pages and will include a one-v-one battle of epic proportions, and possibly one banning]

Great defence from the Rock and showed some skill offloading the ball and attacking from there own end. Worryingly, the "Canada" centres were turnstiles in defence and looked slow and poor on attack.
Riordan took stupid penalties for late and high tackles, disappointing from a captain in a close match.
Loved seeing Rod Snow make an open field try saving tackle in the 60+ minute against a fresh winger (Mercier?) with space from five meters out.
If that game and result isn't a wake up call for Canada and the CDI premier standard then people should get ready for an even bigger one at the World Cup.

It's embarrassing that an ancient Rock side that has not played since October could beat a select side from RC.

Rugby Canada should ask themselves how Crowley was out coached by an outdated Parfrey? Where was Canada's wide expansive game? The Selects should have been able to run around Snow, Goodland, O'Leary and the rest of the geriatrics.

If that is the center pairing for the WC then Canada will leak 20 points through the midfield in every match. RS, should write his next letter on how not to defend and yet retain a spot on the WC squad.

Snow should be a shoe-in for selection. RC should take the money that they are paying TA and use it to pay Snowy for 6 weeks of propping at the WC.

Riordan lost the plot and needs to keep his focus. Is this loss foreshadowing for the story that will be written at the WC.

Let's save the rugby community a lot money and send the ROCK to the World Cup. They are already better prepared and better coached.

Send the Rock to the RWC

Rugby Canada lost the plot a long time ago and this kind of defeat looks good on them.

Ancient player from the Rock who haven't played since October! I don't think so! At least 7 of those "ancient" players playing in BC or Wales this winter.

    Good job Rock...

The thing I love about the Rock is the guys who play for that team take pride in where they are from and wear their hearts on their sleeves.

Maybe we should be making NFLD the national team training center. They are doing something right on the right coast.

The JBAA - Rock Match will be very interesting... As JBAA like the rock takes pride in their colours and their craft.

The training center should be in NFLD. Parfrey has already proved he is smarter and can our coach the over priced kiwi who is hiding out up at SLS.

Make Crowley move to the Rock so that he can see how it is done.

There must be something in the water out east, there is no way those "has beens" should have beaten a Select side produced by a former all black.

Here's a hint - attend practice and do some coaching.

    The Rock

    1 Frank Walsh
    2 Owen Palfrey
    3 Rod Snow
    4 Jeb Sinclair
    5 Brad Lester
    6 Chauncey O'Toole
    7 Kevin Parfrey
    8 Ken Goodland
    9 Sean White
    10 Dean Blanks
    11 Rob Wilson
    12 Tyler Wish
    13 Geoff Wilson
    14 ???
    15 Morgan Lovell
    16 Phil Alcock
    17 Steve Sutcliffe
    18 Chris Sayler
    19 Jon Phelan
    20 Sean O'Leary
    21 Justin Meyers
    22 Adam Paul
    23 Simon Pacey
    24 Rob Turk
    25 Jason Picco

That is the starting lineup against Canada Selects. Seven that I know of played in BC and/or Wales. Now they will all head back to the Rock and help them in the CRC. Which is OK cause that is what we do in Canada but don't ever think that Parfrey out coached Crowley.

I'm a big fan of the Rock to but you know White, Warden and Wish are BC boys that all grew up playing on the island.

As for the 'outcoaching' comments. Are you guys being serious Frank? Do you know how much coaching this Selects team received together prior to the game? Did Rushton and Murdy outcoach Parfrey yesterday then? Should they then be coach?

I would put the coaching team of Parfrey, Rushton and Murdy up against Crowely, Barnes and Griffth's anyday of the week.

It would cost RC a lot less money.

Warden and Wish have drank the juice - they are east coasters now.

No excuses, Crowley could have spent a lot of time with those players if he ever decided to make a trip down the malahat.

    NO EXCUSES, right RB

Out of the Rock's starting 15 that beat the CDI all-stars and friends, the following hadn't played since October 2010

    O. Parfrey
    R. Snow
    B. Lester
    K. Parfrey
    D. Blanks
    R. Wilson
    T. Wish
    G. Warden
    M. Lovell
Not sure about R. Turk who started at #14

I'm not sure if it was coaching or not but there must be some explanation why an all-star team from "the best league in the country" plus other NSMT prospects was beaten by a team comprised mainly of guys who have only been training in a gymnasium all winter. The Selects are a team comprised almost entirely of players who just finished playing CDI or in Wales and were out to impress for World Cup spots.

Hopefully all top players in the country will play CRC for the high level of competition it offers to the best players from each region in the country.

Sounds like some good rugby played by all teams this week, maybe a little light on the defensive side in the 48-38 game but not bad. Let hope that all four teams in the CRC but out the strongest teams possible to add to the talent pool we have. There will be plenty of room for newcomers as most of the national team players will not be involved. I don't care where the players come from or are presently playing as long as they are the best around, then pick them for Canada and I'll support them. More internal games like this are good for our development and it would be good to see more top teams travelling within the country.
