Sean White playing for the Rock. Interesting. Let's see if the Blues can go one better. Got to love the Newfie fans.
Wish I could be in Oakville to watch the game Saturday but I have to work. Go Blues go.Posted 12 months ago # -

Love the Battle in the Stands. The Argies must have felt
at home. The ROCK does not back down to anyone.
Got to give Pat and Simon PROPS!!

Well, now Harry ... I doubt the Blues will go one better, but there's a chance they may.
You see, the Rock worked Salta over pretty thoroughly, and gave 'em a right pasting ... and so we're sending the leftovers up to you, in Ontario.
The Rock has a new nickname : the 'meat tenderizers'. If the Blues can get past Salta it'll be largely 'cause the Rock took the sting out of 'em!
Salta arrived in St. John's last Sunday, and had more than three days to acclimatize and train. Then they got an unexpected mauling from the Rock, and were lucky to win the game. Then there were the Thursday night dinner and celebrations, and then a 5:15 a.m. flight out of St. John's this morning, Friday ... to play the Blues tomorrow.
I'd say the Blues got lucky ... getting the Rock to do all the dirty work for them!

We'll thank you if we win. I don't approve of the shenanagins in the stands however. Players play and fans should watch. Why was White playing?

Harry,
White was invited to play for The Rock in BC when their top scrum halves were unavailable due to injury. I imagine he'll possibly play until their return considering how much he's enjoying the experience and sense of teamwork and support.
As for the incident in the stands, the crowd was very excited when the Rock tied the score and was really riled up. One of the Salta staff on the far side of the field took exception and either spit or sprayed water from a water bottle and threw it at the high school students behind him. That's what preciptated the incident. I heard from a 50 year old spectator on that side of the field that when the Salta players and coaches rushed over they were sucker punching 17 year olds.

Perhaps more to the point is that the incident occurred immediately after the Rock's try, which tied things up at 13-all ... and it led to an over-7 minute delay in the game, effectively taking the momentum away from them.
See for yourself ... I've posted an unlisted YouTube video of 4 minutes length. Couldn't bear to re-live the entire 7 mins.+

At the moment only this forum's members can view it. Of course if you forward the link to a friend by email then they can view it too, so it's not truly private. Just not eager to publicize an unpleasant episode too widely.)

The version I heard was that the Argie side deliberatly provoked the incident when the Rock was gaining momentum. My source is a former Rock player that was in the stands so take it for what you will.
Excuse me, I have to go back to watching Leinster - Northampton

I checked out the Blues-Salta line-up on the Rugby Ontario site. Looks like it's mostly replacements from the Rock game starting for Salta with only the prop Fernandez and halfbacks Lico and Montalbetti retaining their starting places. Lico was very accurate with his goal kicking against The Rock

We won easily and I haven't heard of any crowd incidents. I'd say the Blues stock has gone up with this win. Interesting note is that three of the starters are from TRU Premier divison, not the Marshall. Any idea of what the crowd was In St John's.

Credit where credit is due ... Congrats to the Blues. From the RC site match report it sounds like they played a whale of a game. Good on 'em. Looking forward to seeing how they do against the WolfPack later in July.
That match report was detailed enough to be interesting, but not enough to help me speculate on the relative strengths of the Blues vs. the Rock, since RC didn't see fit to list the Salta roster for the game.
I noted the RC comment that Salta seemed to be "playing on tired legs" ... which would imply players who had played in the Rock game ... but as bs_detector said, the Salta roster on the Rugby Ontario site indicated fresh legs : their replacements; almost their 2nd XV.
Don't want to begrudge the Blues any due honour, but how are we to compare apples with apples if RC leaves out the Salta roster from the match report?
Shoddy reporting, I say. In a country where the rugby hot-beds are as far-flung as ours are the reporting is important, I think, to keep us all somewhat knit together, and help us form an accurate assessment of what's going on.
Rugby Canada's reporting doesn't fill the bill, in my view. Too much of it appears to be horn-blowing for favoured teams.
Another issue with RC reporting : when will they begin including a proper Box Score for these major games, complete with the actual times of scores, names of those carded, referees and touch judges, etc.?
I was unable to find the Salta roster on the Rugby Ont. site (as bs_detector did), so for your information I'll include here their roster for the Rock game, taken from the official program guide ... and let YOU compare :
1. Christian Fernandez
2. Emiliano Saravia
3. Facundo Corimayo
4. Atillo Ovejero
5. Cesar Perez
6. Agustin Ellero
7. Raymundo Sosa

Thanks for the information and it will be interesting to see how the CRC pans out. I would say that the Blues stock has risen but the Rock must still start favourites. DeScossa as coach makes BC look like they will be good if he can convince good players to play so I think the Wolfpack may end up at the bottom. Let's hope a lot of new younger players for the 2015 World Cup get a chance. I think this new coach, doesn't have any favourites yet and will pick whoever performs the best, not based on reputation. I don't know Mr Doyle but he is to be congratulated on his work so far. I think that all games should have a good quality recording amde and these tapes should be distributed to the scouts and clubs of the worlds professional leagues to get more Canadians playing pro world wide.
