Once again this discussion (like so many others) has gone sideways with personal affronts and conspicuous regionalisms. It's interesting to stop by and witness the "brain trust" of Canadian rugby at work!
Wow...
Sorry to insult anybody who has anything of substance to add to this thread, I'm painting a large swath here...
For those of you who contribute something meaningful, well done!

Velox only playing local talent!!!! Thats because no one of talent wants to play there, bryn keys included..He has gone to JBAa and now watch him make it back to the natonal team. . Johnny Mac might be there new coach but he's terrible. Name one program he ran and WON at? He destroyed cowichan when he was there! The carnies won't have a field soon as UVIC owns it.

@ Harry, Brampton used to be good before the ORU (and the soft headed Oshawa brigade) decided to change the competition every 6 months. How's that working out in Ontario? How many teams are running three sides? What a nightmare...
@Juniorcoach, find somewhere else to preach. And give it a rest. I've watched your tired act for a while and you're just as guilty as Snowman for spouting useless drivel that only your family members would care to read. Hit the bricks, or go somewhere with a higher plane of discussion. Nobody is keeping you here.
@Snowman I've obviously struck a nerve. I just love chirping you, because you've come on here before criticizing players, coaches, clubs etc. and even though you don't know who I am, I am well aware who you are. You are a Frasier Crane rugby player, as in 'tossed salads and scrambled eggs'. Again, nobody on these forums cares about your private e-mail conversations with Craig Slay where he 'encouraged you' to come west. If you quit your job to come play caps 4ths and then whine about it on the internet, then, yeah, sure you may get the last laugh, and the first laugh, but all the laughs in between? They belong to me.
@The rest of you, especially Snowman:
The club I am with tries to do things the old fashioned way. We build our junior programs. We get people coaching at local high schools. Train refs, coaches and volunteers. We try and create a fun, family atmosphere where all players are welcome. We put money into youth rugby, mini rugby and looking after the players who have been here since their early teens and not into housing vagabonds or paying rec players to play. And then? We hope the rest falls into place. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Snowman, you and your east of the Rockies crowd, with your hands out, can 'stay the hell away' from us, we truly do not mind.Posted 6 months ago # -

@SOH Brampton wasn't the only team hurt by that ruling, but my club, like Richmond, goes on developing local talent and having fun. Let's have more clubs doing that and Canadian rugby will be well.

Same as BC players go east to play all year round. At least they are Canadian players versus many clubs that import so many players that they look like Japanese National team.
But to your point, the amount they should be allowed to import should limited. If your club is doing this great, but it is the local union that should push this. Clubs together have more of influence than one club.

I never whined about anything son, if no one cares then why'd you bring it up. I would say i'm no different from anyone else on here in terms of the level of criticism put towards the players/coaches.
I only brought this up because I have heard of other people in the same situation, people with many varying club affiliations and skill levels, once again the point is the costliness of going back and forth to the average person who wants to try and excel at rugby. You only hear about the success stories, and for every successful player there has to be a large amount who are unsuccessful

Abby There should be room for Both. However:
Only the Elite League will help
our National Team get better.
Big Win Today, in a close game, for Abby!
Abby stepping up or just playing for
the love of rugby?Posted 6 months ago # -
Nothing wrong with playing for the love of rugby.

I'm not saying that Elite rugby isn't necessary, I'm saying that too many of the former Elite players fade off the face of the map when they are no longer playing. They should be the ones taking leadership roles in their clubs when the have finished playing top level.

"One in Seven Rule." U get 7 good players to your club.
All R made welcome but only 1 stays for 20 years.
Players drift in and out but few stay rugby focused
for 20+ years. Good 2 c Abby in the Deep End and
Caps get back into the Shark Tank!Posted 6 months ago # -
Come to think of it, that's actually a pretty accurate rule. I was just hoping some of the elite players would reduce that ratio a bit.
Guys like McWhinney and Harry Toews returning to our club and doing a lot more than just playing, have been huge for our development.

All the top prospects need to move to the west coast.
Who cares if a kid from Mount Doug makes the elite league in BC? If he is good enough he will make it, if not he can move to Saskatchewan and play summer rec league. From there he can follow the national team pathway to the Howlers and then get a try out with the national team.Posted 6 months ago #
