Leth over St FX by at least 10 in the final. Way to keep the points down is containing Patzer, but if Langevin continues to play her at 10 that will help st fx as she is more of a threat from 15. Only reason she got 2 dorp goals off in the final against u of a was she had tons of time before defense was even close to her, the second drop goal barely cleared the cross bar!! Patzer playing at 10 is not much of a distributer as she should be, they scored their first 2 tries with simple hands along the back line with wingers scoring, but the ball never really got out after that as she kept it herself a lot. The Leth pack has grown a lot since last year too and was pushing the Pandas all over the place and stole almost every scrum in the second half. Interesting to see what happens in BC

Lethbridge will bring to BC, the strongest university women's team that I have seen in my 5 years of watching the sport. Further it is a team that, thank's to the UofA Panda's, has had to dig deep in order to represent Canada West. I will not predict any outcomes, but my quess is that the CIS will not see the likes of this team, that Neil Langevin and staff have put together, for several years to come (22 players from last years CIS Championship squad, 8 graduating players who have already tasted a bronze,a silver and 2 gold medals, 2 capped National team players and no less than another 10 players who would be legitimate picks for any U-19 or U-23 National age grade team.) Regardless of the results in BC, it has been a delight to watch the evolution of this team. I wish them well as they strive to defend their title.

Any thoughts, Fan or Rugbygirl on who you would nominate from the west to be CIS All-Canadians this year? Thoughts about players in the east?

Guy,I don't believe I am in a position from the limited number of games I have seen to make a judgement call on the CIS allstar selections especially, when it concerns teams other than the Pronghorns. I will be surprized however if Patzer, MacDonald and Willougby are not given consideration from the Pronghorns. As Senior National team players Patzer and MacDonald are well known. Kelsey Willoughby is not, as she is a freshman. She is an in your face aggressive flanker who can also run and catch the ball. In many ways, she reminds me of Kelly Russell because of her size (5'10") and her strength and tenacity. In lineouts she is formidable, because of her size and her great vertical and hands (was offered a basketball scholarship and turned it down to play rugby). She has aready caught the attention of Canada's senior Women's coaches. We will see more of her in the future, both in 7's and 15's.

its hard b/c i dont really know the teams besides leth and alberta... altho i think most of the players would be from these teams anyway. I think Patzer should be playing 15 tho and Michele Helmeczi has been playing really well with the UBC team when there isnt a whole lot there to work with. her drop goals at Westerns were beautiful too and Patzer is much more of a threat on attack when she can pick where to join the line from at full back. Ash Macdonald played really well in the western final and has proved herself this year with the national team, good luck to her on the france tour coming up in a couple weeks. I think the team they selected for the CIS. Kelsey did play well at westerns, but there are 6 carded back row and that is a tough position to crack the national squad at, good luck to her though. Not a clue what there is for players in the east, will be waiting to hear who makes the All Canadian squad.. Good luck to all the teams at Nationals!!

On the most deplorable field I have yet to witness a rugby game being played, the UofL Pronghorns showed that in the CIS they are in a league of their own. This was a tournemnt fought in the trenches mostly by the forwards. The Pronghorn pack demonstrated that they are undeniably the strongest pack in Canada. What is scary, is that had footing been better, the Pronghorn backs, already acknowledged as one of the best in the country, would have been twice as deadly as they already were. Scores that were already flattering would easily have become outrageous. Which brings me to another point. Neil Langevin.

It took 4 Canada West Championships and 2 CIS Championships (now 3) for the CIS to finally recognize the genius of the man. Here is a coach who took a little hick water university from nothing to a national power house in 10 years. In my oppinion he is one of the best things that has happened to women's rugby in Canada!!! (Let's watch his detractors go ballistic over that) This recognition was overdue.

Lastly, the deplorable field conditions, a field where there were spots that the girls sank up to their ankles in mud and where almost every step, even on solid grass, was treacherous given the grass itself would move, claimed a sad casualty in that Ashley MacDonald has broken her ankle and is out of the France tour and probably out of contention to play in the world cup in London. So bitter sweet.

Yep that field was in terrible shape. Football will do that.

That being said, the Pronghorns were very good. The opening 10 minutes was a wakeup call for them however.

The X-men consistently tackled the Pronghorns behind the gainline, but couldn't capitalize on the pressure. Had they been able to do that the result may have been closer as that would have provided a lift.

The Pronghorns sealed the deal in the opening minutes of the second half scoring a well worked try on the right wing.

Patzer played well, although the X-men 10 also had an excellent game dispite going backwards all afternoon.

All in all a good display. I'd agree that the Pronghorns have the best University pack in Canada. Let's just leave it at that.
