Womens Nations Cup

I`m hearing that the costs for the Women to attend the Nations Cup in Oakville are coming in at around $2400 per player. Is this not a IRB event and if so is there no IRB funding to off set these costs.I hear the women are none to happy with the amount.I know they base there costs on cost sharing to make it fair to all the girls, but can you imagine a girl from Ont. asked to pony up $2400.There should be no air fare costs for most of the Ont.girls, and you can get airfare right now from Vancouver for $455,if they are staying at Appleby daily rate is $40/night per person x 17 days = $680,and mini-van rentals would run about $350/player 17 days. With most tours the ladies have been shopping for their own groceries and now that they are on a specific nutritional program makes more sense this way.The girls should not have to pay for any of the costs incurred by the staff including their share of the vehicle rentals this should be covered by RC.So using as a model only the Women chosen for the USA test, the following is an approximation of what the up front costs should be. airfare $426, accom. $680, trans. $350 total of $1456.If they have opted for the meal package that would agg $38.75/day = $658.75.It must also be pointed out that since the Women pay-to-play they are entitled to a documented expenses report and i have yet to hear of any given out in the last 5 yrs.

Maybe the excess is going to pay the million that was lost in Edmonton

And why should the women have to pay for that loss. They payed the full load to be there representing Canada. It wasn`t the Canadian women who decided to host the tournament it was the board, who I believe get all expenxes paid for them. The women have been getting a raw deal for years and if tlml1234 is correct it is scandaluos if they haven`t been presnted with itemised expenses over the years. The arguement about what Ontario girls are expected to pay though is a moot point if expenses are to be shared, an Ontario athlete would pay the same as any other be she from BC or Nova Scotia.

Why would the women palying in the Nations Cup be paying for that loss. They ahd nothing to do with it, it wasn`t he women playing in 2006 or the women playing now who made the decison to host the World Cup but it was decided by the Rugby Canada Board, who last time I checked have their expenses paid. As far as how much Ontario athletes pay the fact they are from the home province has nothing to do with it if there is a cost sharing formula in place. The Ontario athlete will pay the same as on form BC or New Brunswick. If tlml1234 is correct why haven`t the women ben given expenxe breakdowns over the years. If I`m paying I want to know what I`m paying for.

Pehaps none of the women have asked for the breakdown of costs.

they have and been told they were forth coming but nothing materializes, and they are in a precarious situation where how much of the applecart do you upset before you become expendable?

So the finals were in England? What was the deal with that?
... just read that England put 110 over on the Yanks in the final!!! Canada beat Wales by two (12-10) to take third place - lucky, given they lost to all three in round robin.
Are our junior national teams becoming even more about haves and have nots, not our first-choice, best players?

Congrats to the ladies on their 35 - 17 victory over South Africa yesterday.
We made it tough on ourselves in the second half though, letting the Boks back in. Hopefully there will be some lessons learned from that. We let them steal too many balls in the second half, mostly from bad passing and/or decisions (in my view anyway....)
Stoughton looked good at 9, and Julia Sugawara showed that she still deserves to be considered. A nice problem to have for the coaches!
We dipped noticeably when Kelly Russell was subbed off. We missed her ability to carry the ball past the gain line. Perhaps the back row would be best served with Russell at 8 and Heather Jacques and Jennifer Kish on the flanks?
I also thought the backline as a unit played very well with Patzer, Hilditch and Waters looking particularly dangerous.
Next up France!

Just watching the Canada vs. France game...pretty dire stuff.
If you can't make the pass between 9 and 10 and you have no kicker (posts or from hand) you are not going to win the game.
A few bright spots in the loose, but not nearly good enough.
Hopefully the team can pick it up next game.

Disappointing loss to USA today as we seemed to squander chances to score like I do chances to pick up women. Not quite true as I have very few chances and the women's team today had ample chances. Nothing I could put a finger on but we had trouble scoring when we had the chance. Good on the USA for grabbing a chance when they had it but I feel we gave it to them as much as they won it. I was also glad to see Karen Lozada get her first international under her belt, despite the bad cold she was suffering. I wonder if her and her husband Rodin Lozada, better known in Ontario as Koko are the first husband and wife to have refereed internationals. I would think so, congratulations. Also got a achance to meet Ashley Patzer's father Lorne, better known to users of this forum as Fan who told me he thinks that inclusion of seven's in the Olympics from 2016 will promaote sevens to top priority for the shortened version of the game in Canada. As much as I like and support sevens I hope he is wrong and that 15's is always paramount among player's and supporters.
The first game of the day between Engalnd and South Africa ended up in a fairly comfortable win for the favourites but give SA credit they fought hard for the whole match.
They may be late comers to women's rugby but they are fast improving. As much as I hope for a Canadian victory at Fletcher's on Saturday, it seems unlikely. We need to get a clinical finishing touch before we are ready to challenge the top sides.
Appleby College is a great venue and it is too bad we couldn't get better support out to cheer our girls on. I can't make it to Fletcher's on Saturday becuse of other committments but I hope we have a large crowd cheering us on against Engalnd. I know a victory is unlikely but I have faith in the girls that they can pull an ulikely upset.
I would also like to apologise to anyone who saw me riding out the Lakeshore today, I know that shirtless I don't make a pretty sight, but remember it was a hot day so I had to keep cool.
Go CANADA go, let's beat England.
